California dreaming hasn't always been the best, but they're doing much better. The New York strip was cooked perfectly and our server Brock S. was fabulous, he was prompt and very attentive even with our large party of 19. Overall a great experience!
Everything I've ever eaten at California Dreaming has been delicious, and the portions generous. They prepare particularly marvelous steaks with a special marinate, to perfection. The staff I have found to be friendly and customer-oriented. While all the C.Dreaming restaurants are beautiful inside, Charleston's is a nice place to dine overlooking the river. It's wise to bring a jacket or sweater as the breeze can get a bit chilly at times.
My 1st visit while I was visiting in Charleston, South Carolina. The food was excellent and the view was beautiful on the ocean. A very romantic setting for evening and family during the day. Service was fast and friendly once we were seated. It was worth the hour wait. I will visit again when I return.
When we come home to visit we always come here for specific cravings so we're always satisfied. The view is astounding and the venue is nice but remember this is a dining group chain restaurant, not a one-of-a-kind luxury spot. We always get a plate of croissants with honey butter, cocktails or beer, and the chicken strips. Nothing fancy, right? I have dreams about these chicken strips. The batter and sauce are to die for. Sometimes we switch it up with a salad, steak or sandwich. The poor reviews I read are indicative of a false expectation. Yes, some of the servers are millennial part-timers who are imbeciles, but again, it's not a five-star place. Do your research and go early. We got there at 5 p.m. for drinks and got a table right away. By 6:15 there were 15 people waiting in the lobby. Never had a bad plate here and can't speak for the seafood because I hate it anyway. If you want a good view, nice atmosphere and what you realistically get for average $15-$20 a plate, this place is for you. If you expect to be treated like royalty, go look on East Bay north of Broad. And last but not least, if you can't write a review with proper grammar and spelling, your opinion carries little credibility for me anyway.
To keep it short... we went in with a party of around 10. 5 Peoples orders came out overcooked or burnt. Mine being one of them. Our server was...... novice to say the least. Took around 20 minutes just to get drinks. I ordered the salmon with a baked potato. The salmon was so over done it no longer flaked and was almost like chewing gum in consistency. The baked potato was literally burnt. How you burn a baked potato is beyond me. The manager came out to address half our parties issues with the food and proceeded to explain to me that "they have to cook the salmon that well done because it's the law and that "Japanese" restaurants don't have to follow that law".... I'm not joking. That is the BS he literally tried to feed me. For the price of the food, compounded with the wretchedly slow service then to top it off by ruining half a parties food not to mention attempting to lie to a customer this place rightfully deserves a 1 star and should be avoided at all costs. You can get better food and top quality service for a fraction of the price at a food truck here in the low country.
