I went here looking for a fun moped and they were awesome and very helpful. When I am ready to buy one I will definitely return to this store. I highly recommend
October: I wasn't getting a horrible noise from the back end and the speedometer quit working. I called to make an appointment for service and was told I couldn't make an appointment but I could bring it in and they might be able to get to it by Wednesday (I was calling on the Friday before). Since I need it to get back and forth to work I explained that I couldn't just leave it there for 4 or 5 days and asked if I could simply bring it in Wednesday. They told me that if I brought it in Wednesday, they might not get to it until Saturday because they might have other mopeds lining up in the meantime. In short, they have no kind of reservation system. You have to drop it off and get it back whenever they get to it. Maybe not a problem if it is just for kicking around on weekends, but if it is a source of transit...not so good. So, I made arrangement to get rides to/from work for the week and dropped it off on Monday. In order to ensure it was inside of warranty I asked again. They repeated that it was a 300 mile warranty. I explained that my TaoTao logs in Kilometers and that it was at 320Km (aprox. 198 miles). They understood and said that, yes, it was under warranty because it was a 300 mile warranty (not km’s). I was later informed that I could pick it up the next Monday. When I came in to pick it up, I was told that the exhaust system was loose and that all that needed done was to tighten all the bolts and, etc. Also, they stated that when tested, the speedometer was working fine and so, they didn't do work to it. Test drive confirmed the speedometer was working. They then hit me with a bill for just over $80.00. I explained that I understood it to be under warranty and they stated that, yes, it was still under warranty but only for parts and labor. Confused by this, I asked for clarification. They explained that since no parts were replaced, the labor was not included. I was still very confused and explained that, normally, "parts and labor" aren't mutually inclusive. They explained that if the exhaust would have been broken and had needed replaced then the labor for that would have been included, but since no parts were replaced, the labor to tighten up the system wasn't included. It seemed strange to me, but I paid it. Side-note: The mechanic, who I spoke with each time I brought it in, was pretty helpful and seems fairly knowledgeable.
Note: If you check the reviews you will see: 5 of 14 5 star reviews are from the Baez girls(4) and Tao Customer service (1). The Baez girls run the shop. They seem to get good reviews from vacation renters though.
Bought a brand new TaoTao 50 moped from them on Sept. 2. I was specifically told that it came with a 300 mile parts and labor warranty, free parts, free labor inside of 300 miles.
If you have a scooter and need any work- call this place! They are the best in town. I have used them for 7 years and they are honest and thorough. The owner is amazing and so are the mechanics! Fair prices and timely work. I highly recommend.
Two weeks later the speedometer stopped working again. So I called them and once again clarified the km / 300 mile warranty and, once again they said, yes...it is a 300 MILE warranty. Two weeks later I went to pick it up. I was told that they had found a problem with the speedometer connection at the wheel and that they replaced it. They told me I would only have to pay for the labor. I reminded her that the moped was still under warranty and that the labor should be free.. She told me my moped had 420 miles on it and so was out of warranty. I reminded her that it was 420 KM and that it says so directly on the gauges of the bike. She disagreed and said that it was not in KM, even though it says so on the gauges. So, I showed her the page in the manual that states "Total forward distance is indicated by km.” She simply told me, "No, it isn't true. It's in miles". After we began to argue the merits of the manual she stated that what the manual says doesn't matter. She knows it is in Miles. I told her she needed to honor what is said in Black & White and she said, "Actually, no we don't"...Completely incredulous, I refused to pay the labor. She told me to get out, but I would still have the remainder of 180 of free parts. I told her that I couldn't believe that to be true and I wouldn't be back.
I have brought my moped in multiple times and always received great service. They have reasonable prices and a friendly staff.
This place is amazing. We bought a new moped from them, and anytime we've had an issue, it's been resolved quickly and professionally. They offer a warranty program, which is awesome!
