Dined at the Peninsula Grill. The food was excellent as was the service. I don't live coconut, so didn't get the cake and had to hear about that from other people. But instead got the toffee ice cream sundae and was extremely happy about the choice. Will definitely suggest to others.
Their credit card processor was down the day we made our reservation in July 2017 so they ran the charge manually, then later ran the same charge again. We contacted Capital One and they credited us. We had a wonderful stay in September with no complaints at all with the accommodations, paid the balance at checkout. When we received our credit card statement, in addition to the paid balance, we had again been charged the original payment. We have spent 4 weeks calling, waiting return calls, being promised a refund, then told we had been given a refund but it would take 7 - 10 days to process. Today was the 13th business day from the date they gave us, 10/15 as processed day, but no credit... they cheerfully told us we should have the credit by the end of the week as it was actually 10/17 before credit was processed... 5 min for the original charge to get posted to our credit card as a payment and 3 months for us to get our credit for the overcharge. I hope you all check your credit card statement thoroughly as we lost $300+ if we had not checked and continued to pursue this. Today we had a 3 way call with Inn and Capital One Visa and they were told the credit had not been posted to our account. They just continue to say they have credited us. Very unhappy. Will never stay there again.
Perfect location for walking around and exploring historic Charleston. We were happy to leave our car with valet the entire weekend and not have to worry about navigating the busy streets. The Planter's Inn is in a magnificently maintained historic building. The bed was comfortable. The room, as well as the rest of the hotel, was impeccably clean. Zero complaints about our stay. Special thanks to Matt in guest services, never got to meet him but he was extremely helpful in setting up my last minute reservation over the phone.
Extremely great staff and room furnishings were amazing. The bellhops were fantastic! The coconut cake was delicious. The Babymoon experience could be improved. Our room was not ready when we arrived, almost an hour late. When we were able to check in nothing was said or provided to us based on our Babymoon experience and all the goodies we should receive and when. We did not receive our breakfast vouchers, nor did we receive chocolate covered strawberries. When I went to call and ask about them. They brought up both the cake (which was for turn down service) and the strawberries. I had to ask the next morning about our breakfast vouchers. I also realized we never received our sparking cider that should have come with the coconut cake. It was marketed well on the website, but the execution was very poor. In hindsight, I wish I would have talked to the manager about this as it was a special weekend for us in a new city, and we paid a lot for the experience that was not delivered.
The business office turned a very pleasant stay into an experience that will take us some time to want to return to Planters Inn.
The Peninsular Grill did not live up to expectations. The food was good but not great. My wife came down with a case of diarrhea as a result of the meal she ate there. Everything was a bit pricy as well. Service was good and ambiance was good.
